Servicing pricesClutch & Cambelt · Quoted First
RH Automotive replaces clutches and cambelts for all makes and models on West Wycombe Road in High Wycombe. A snapped cambelt causes serious engine damage on most engines, so replacement at the manufacturer's interval is far cheaper than the repair. We inspect and quote before any work starts.
Every clutch and cambelt job is different, so we inspect and quote before any work begins.
Slipping, a judder when pulling away, a clutch pedal that feels unusually heavy or has a high biting point, difficulty selecting gears, or a burning smell are all worth checking. RH Automotive inspects the clutch and quotes before any work starts.
A clutch wears with every gear change, so the symptoms usually build slowly rather than appear overnight. That makes it easy to adjust your driving without noticing, right up until it fails completely. Worth a check if you notice any of the following:
Driving style makes a real difference to how long a clutch lasts. Frequent stop-start traffic, pulling a trailer or caravan, and riding the pedal all shorten its life, while a car driven mostly on motorways tends to get more miles from the same clutch.
By the manufacturer's interval, typically somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles or every 5 to 10 years, whichever comes first. The exact figure varies a lot by engine, so RH Automotive will confirm the interval for your specific vehicle rather than give a one-size-fits-all number.
On most engines, a snapped cambelt causes serious internal engine damage, because the pistons and valves collide once the timing is lost. Replacing the belt at the correct interval is far cheaper than the repair, so it isn't an area worth waiting on.
The water pump is usually replaced at the same time. It's driven by the same belt on many engines, and it's already exposed once the cambelt is off, so doing both together avoids a second labour charge later.
Some newer engines use a timing belt that runs in oil rather than the traditional dry belt outside the engine, known as a wet belt. These can suffer if the interval is missed or the oil isn't right. Call RH Automotive with your make, model and engine to check what your car needs.
On some engines, yes. Where the two jobs share labour, such as engines where the gearbox has to come out for a clutch and the cambelt is accessible at the same time, doing both together can save a second labour charge. RH Automotive will tell you honestly whether that applies to your car.
