What is wheel alignment?
Wheel alignment means setting the angles of your wheels back to the manufacturer's specification. There are three angles involved, and a laser aligner measures all three on all four wheels.

A laser aligner sets each wheel against a target reading in a computer, rather than by eye, so the adjustment is measured in fractions of a degree rather than guessed.
Why it happens
Why do wheels go out of alignment?
Alignment moves gradually as bushes and joints wear, and it can shift suddenly after an impact. A kerb clipped at low speed, a deep pothole, or a bump felt through the steering wheel can knock the toe or camber off, even when nothing looks bent from the outside.
New or replaced suspension parts change the geometry too. Springs, shocks, arms, bushes and track rod ends all affect the angles, so alignment is normally checked and reset after any of that work, not just when something feels wrong.

Do I need wheel alignment?
Likely if the car pulls to one side, the steering wheel sits off-centre when driving straight, or the tyres are wearing unevenly. It's also worth checking after hitting a kerb or pothole hard, or after any suspension work. RH Automotive can check and quote before doing anything.
What's the difference between tracking and 4 wheel alignment?
Tracking usually means adjusting toe on the front wheels only. 4 wheel laser alignment measures and corrects camber, caster and toe on all four wheels against the manufacturer's settings. RH Automotive does the full 4 wheel job, not just tracking.
The full check catches problems tracking alone would miss, particularly on cars with independent rear suspension.
What does it cost me if I ignore it?
Poor alignment wears tyres out faster, often unevenly across the tread, which means replacing them sooner than you should have to. It also increases rolling resistance, which costs fuel, and can make the car feel less stable or pull under braking.
